“This evening we received the results of the research of Porton down’s (a centre for training in protection against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear dangers near Salisbury. — RBC), which show that two people have been exposed to nerve agents “Beginner”, he said.
The representative of Scotland Yard has revealed some of the circumstances of the incident. He said that the first was hospitalized 44-year-old woman. According to him, the ambulance service called to one of the addresses in Amesbury on 30 June, about 10.15. The woman was unconscious, she was immediately hospitalized.
Later in the afternoon, around 15.30, at the same address again called for an ambulance. This time for a 45-year-old man. He was also taken to hospital. After that, the fame was delivered by the police.
The report said that initially there was a version according to which both suffered poisoning after eating drugs from potentially affected parties. However, on 2 July, because of the symptoms that occur from the victims, the samples were sent to the laboratory in Porton down.
“After a detailed analysis of these samples we can confirm that a man and a woman were exposed to nerve agents “Beginner”, which was identified as the same substance that poisoned Yulia and Sergey Skrypalia”, — reads the statement of the representative of Scotland Yard.
Basu said that currently, both victims are in critical condition. Both of them are British citizens.
Currently, according to the representative of Scotland Yard, investigators are trying to establish how the couple could come in contact with nerve substance. The investigation involved hundreds of representatives of Department on fight against terrorism.
The statement said that the police could not yet say whether the “Newcomer” that had poisoned a couple from Amesbury from the same batch as the substance that had poisoned Skrypali. “The probability that these two incidents may be related, undoubtedly, is one of the areas of our investigation,” he said.
