For multiple violations anti-doping rules for the Games in 2008 and 2012, the Executive Committee of the international organization of weightlifting was suspended from competition the national teams of the Russian Federation, Ukraine and seven other countries.
The Executive Committee of the international organization of weightlifting (IWF), decided a year suspension from participation in all international competitions the national team of Russia in weightlifting. The statement was distributed at Saturday, 30 September, on the organization’s website.
In addition to the Russian national team in tournaments will not be able to take part teams of eight countries. The reason were numerous violations of anti-doping rules at the Olympics in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012.
“The Executive Committee today unanimously decided that the members of the Federation who are diagnosed with three or more anti-doping rule violation after the re-analysis of samples of athletes at the Games in 2008 and 2012, should be suspended for one year. Currently, it is the national federations of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine”, – stated in the message.
“There is no doubt that the IWF anti-doping program has progressed considerably since the Beijing 2008 and London 2012. Over the last ten years the culture of sport has changed in many regions. But we consider it our responsibility to do more, and we will do more. With the help of our Commission, “clean” sport we don’t just observe how we overcome the current problems, but also how we can implement new methods of testing and anti-doping measures to the benefit of all sport,” said IWF President Tamas ajan.
Suspended teams will miss the world championship in weightlifting, which will be held from 28 November to 5 December in the us city of Anaheim. The decision taken by the IWF, will come into force in mid-October.
