“In the area of Tartus we have now are based warships, including large landing ship, which staff are Marines. In this case we are talking about the special forces of the marine corps that helps the units that are in the Syrian army. Valery Fedyanin worked as a counselor. Unfortunately, the war is not without casualties, and Deir-ez-Zor is a very complex area with many fields of mining. Here there is just our Colonel was wounded, and, unfortunately, doctors failed to save him,” said Alex Leonov.
According to him, the terrorists in Syria are now changing tactics of warfare.
“The nature of the struggle against units of LIH* and “Dzhebhat EN-Nusra”* has now changed. If it was a positional war – free cities, districts, etc., then now is a struggle for specific strategically important points, such as Deir-ez-Zor – the crossing of the Euphrates river. And this changed the nature of the conduct themselves of ISIS*: before, they just were not selectively a massive bombardment of the positions of the Syrian army, and lately it seems that there is a hunt for those commanders who lead divisions, leading the fight against terrorists. And after the events that happened with Valery Asadovym, we are talking about our commanders who are assisting the Syrian army,” – said the military expert.
At the end of September it became known that in Syria, during shelling by terrorists from grouping “Islamic state”* died Lieutenant-General Valery Isupov. The soldier was the eldest of a group of Russian military advisers and was at the command post of the Syrian troops, leading the fighting near the city of Deir ez-Zor.
Deputy foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov said that the death of General is the price paid by Russia for the duplicity of the United States in the settlement of the crisis in the region. According to the diplomat, Washington is interested in the elimination of the IG* only. “Still, some political and geopolitical problems for Washington more important than what is declared in terms of commitment to the fight against terrorism,” said Ryabkov told reporters.
