President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Canada’s Tricia Smith urged the leaders of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to suspend the Russian team from participation in the Olympic games 2018 in South Korea.
This statement Smith spoke at a meeting of the NOC of Canada in Vancouver after Putin accused the US of putting pressure on the IOC to prevent Russia for the Olympics.
“We welcome the work of the two commissions, headed by Samuel Schmid and Denis Oswald, however this work is extensive and requires time. If the conclusion of the commissions cannot be done immediately, we ask to take measures, including the suspension of Russia, in order to ensure the purity of the winter Olympic games, which left 112 days” — quoted by Smith tribuna.com.
According to Smith, who is a member of the IOC and court of arbitration for sport (CAS) in Lausanne, the decision would help to ensure the cleanliness of the upcoming Games in 2018.
Recall that the IOC under the leadership of Schmid and Oswald now check the conclusions of the canadian lawyer Richard McLaren of the possible existence of state doping system in Russia and the involvement of the Russian Olympic team.
