Scientists from the University of Granada say that the fitness dance Zumba for 5 weeks can improve emotional health. The study involved sedentary employees of the University.

Zumba is a program for fitness, which combines excellent international and Latin music with dance steps of salsa, merengue and other types of dance. The result is a very funny “training”.

Volunteers worked at the state University for 8-hour days, performing mainly sedentary work. They participated in the exercise program based on Zumba with the aim of studying its impact on quality of life, both in the short and medium term. Zumba was held 3 days a week at the end of the day.

Participants reported significant improvements in most quality of life indicators, including social, emotional, physical condition, reducing physical pain, improving physical functioning, vitality, mental health and General health.

Moreover, even 2 months after the end of the program most of the indicators of quality of life has continued to exceed the rates recorded in the beginning of the program.

“It is interesting to note that the emotional indicators, which were the lowest in the beginning of the program, after its completion was the highest,” said the study’s author Yaira Barranco Ruiz.

The study was published in “Health Education Journal”.
