In a study published in the journal “International Journal of Obesity,” the scientists from the University of Copenhagen randomly divided the 130 participants into four groups: Cycling group, two training groups, performing physical exercises with high-and medium intensity, and the control group. The participants were aged 20-45 years, and their BMI was 25 to 35 kg/m2. After 6 months the researchers compared the weight of all the participants.
The results of the study showed that compared with the control group, people who performed intense exercise, fat weight decreased by 4.5 kg, the of people doing exercises of medium intensity, it decreased by 2.6 kg, while the people who went to work on the bike, lost 4.2 kg of fat mass.
People, who rode on bike to work, were physically active and burned as many calories per week as those who were engaged in physical exercises of high and moderate intensity in the gym.
